Abstract

1,147,037. Edge connectors for printed circuit boards. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 6 Aug., 1966, No. 35309/66. Heading H2E. Outer printed leads 8, 9 and inner earthed conducting layers 4, 5 of a printed circuit board 1 are respectively linked by resilient C- shaped contact elements 11, 12 which are arranged with insulating separators in a stack, a cam member 36 being provided which can be rotated so as to force the arms of the elements apart as illustrated in Fig. 9 to allow the board to be inserted. The contacts 11, 12 are arranged in groups each comprising one inner contact 12 between two outer contacts 11. A stack of contact groups is mounted in an elongated insulating block (32), Figs. 6-9 (not shown). The cam member extends as a shaft throughout the block and terminates with bosses (37) at least one of which is formed with a square socket (40) to receive a key for rotation. Blade springs (38) secured to the board 1 have apertures for engaging the bosses (37) of the cam member in order to retain the board 1 in the edge connector. Each contact element is provided with a tag (31) from which connection may be made to another circuit.
