Abstract

1,212,158. Two part couplings. AMP Inc. 27 May, 1969 [26 June, 1968], No. 26651/69. Heading H2E. A resilient, insulating housing 1 has a plurality of passageways 2 each of which accommodates a contact element 3; stamped from sheet metal, having a terminal member 7 extending out of the housing and fixed portion 9 and relatively movable portion 10 forming a socket contact 8 which receives a lead 6 of a modular circuit element 5. The bottom of the phosphorbronze element 3 has tapered edges 20, 21 to facilitate insertion of the element which is retained in the passageway by shoulders 16-19 which engage complementary shoulders in the passageway. The lead 6 of the modular element 5 e.g. integrated circuit, resistor, capacitor, is received through an aperture (26) in the housing by the movable portion 10 and fixed portion 9 as a tight fit and the connection may be made permanent by wedging a strip of semi-resilient material 27 e.g. a mono-filament polyamid string into a slot 12 in the element 3. Connection may be made to the contact member 7 and further terminal members 23, 24 if present by soldering or attaching conductive clips. The whole assembly may be mounted on a panel- 25 by bolts passing through holes 4 in the housing.
