Abstract
1,180,833. Moulding shoe soles. DR. ING. FUNCK K.G. 6 March, 1967 [4 March, 1966], No. 10429/67. Heading B5A. A moulded article, e.g. a shoe sole, having a dense, rigid outer skin 9 and a porous interior of greater density at its extremities 11 than at its median portion 10 is made by a process comprising injecting thermoplastic or elastomeric material containing a foaming agent via a sprue 8 into a mould cavity 12 and forming the skin 9 to a predetermined thickness by either heating or cooling the mould parts 1, 2 depending on the material injected, and then separating the parts by a distance " a " whereon foaming ensues. Owing to the tension of the skin 9, the moulded article has convexity and a non- uniform density of the core. In order to obtain a shoe sole having plane parallel upper and lower sides, the upper and lower halves (1<SP>1</SP>), (2<SP>1</SP>) of the mould are made convex inwardly into the mould cavity, the convexities counteracting the tendency of the median portion of the sole to bulge. In a further modification one wall may be plane and the other convex.
