Abstract

1,179,882. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. 25 March, 1968 [2 May, 1967], No. 20158/67. Heading H2E. A socket contact comprises an insulation grip 3, a wire crimp ferrule 4, and a channelshaped receptacle 1 having bent portions 8 with flared corners 17, and slots 10, 11 in receptacle base 6 defining integral L-shaped spring portions 14 with bevelled corners 19 for receiving a tab contact (not shown) which depresses the springs 14 and is retained between portions 8 and 15. A detent 15 is provided for securing the socket in a housing (not shown). The sockets may be stamped from a metal blank (Fig. 4, not shown). In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 5 to 8, not shown), a central, longitudinal embossment (20) is provided on the base 6, and the slots 11 extend into side walls 7 of the receptacle 1, to form spring portions 14 which are initially curved below the base 6, rising to the level of the embossment (20) The springs 14 may be stiffened by lateral corrugations and may have serrated edges.
