Abstract

1,175,363. Gilling apparatus. D. WALKER. 10 Aug., 1967 [22 Aug., 1966], No. 33172/66. Heading D1N. The feed rollers 6 or equivalent devices of a gilling apparatus have pinned surfaces, the faller gills 8 moving in a path between the pinned rollers and delivery rollers 9, 10 which positively nip the sliver of fibres at a speed considerably greater than that at which the fibres (e.g. greasy wool) are forwarded by the pinned rollers and slower than the rate of delivery by the delivery rollers. Preferably a clearer comb 12 having spaced teeth 13 which pass freely between pins 7 is caused to oscillate about pivot support 16 to assist in the withdrawal of fibres off the pins. An oscillating clearer blade 19 may be provided adjacent the pins 8X of faller bars 8 as they retract from the material, the blade being located at its lower end between two fixed rails 21 and being mounted at 20 on a yieldable conductor guide 18.
