Abstract

1,173,948. Castors. HOMA ENG. Ltd. 24 Sept., 1968 [28 June, 1967; 21 Aug., 1967], Nos. 29801/67 and 38420/67. Heading A4U. A vibration-absorbing bush 8 of resilient rubber or plastics is inserted between fork legs 3a and the ends of a fixed axle 4 on which a castor wheel 5 rotates. The bush is compressed axially when nuts 11 are tightened, the bush is tapered, has an outwardly extending annular flange, is preferably of a plastics mix containing 40 per cent by weight of polypropylene, and has rigid, metallic, inner and external lining sleeves 9, 10 moulded thereon. The castor is of fixed or swivelling type, and in modifications the wheel is fixed on the axle which rotates in the fork legs, the external lining sleeve is omitted (Fig. 3, not shown) so that the flange of the bush bears against the outer face of the leg, or a resilient bush inserted between the fork of the leg, or a resilient bush inserted between the fork and the axle extends partially into the axle-receiving bore of the wheel. In a further modification a resilient bush is provided between the wheel and the axle only.
