Abstract

1,170,921. Clamps; clamps. DEIGHTON'S PATENT FLUE & TUBE CO. Ltd. and L. H. RIDDELL. 20 Dec., 1966 [4 Jan., 1966], No. 228/66. Headings E2A and E2B. [Also in Division E2] A pipe member 1 is secured in the socket of a pipe member 10 by an inflatable resilient gripping ring 7 which is axially anchored on the member 1 between a fixed flange 2 and a detachable split flanged collar 8. The ring is inflated into contact with the socket wall by supplying compressed air to an underlying coil 3 of resilient tubing through a control valve 5 mounted on the pipe member 1. The ring 7 may be a continuous member or formed of two or more arcuate portions. The ring may be inflated by direct fluid pressure or through a resilient sleeve or diaphragm as alternatives to the provision of the coil 3.
