959,100. Pipe couplings. E. B. CHRISTENSEN. March 8, 1961, No. 8435/61. Heading F2G. A coupling nipple for a pipe or hose comprises a coupling part 1 having a threaded portion 5 and a tapered plug 6 with an outwardly projecting beading 9, a shell 2 having an internally threaded part 12 and a conical part 13 and a split ring 3 of flexible material having an outer conical surface 3<SP>11</SP> and an oblique slot therethrough. The end of the pipe or hose is received in the hollow space 7 and is clamped to the nipple on threaded engagement of the part 1 with the shell 2 by the ring 3 which is pressed into the wall of the pipe or hose between the surface 5<SP>1</SP> and the beading 9 by the action of the conical surfaces 13, 311 and the abutment of the end of the ring 3 with the surface 5<SP>1</SP>.
