Abstract

1,169,245. Casting composite articles and joints. NEEDLE INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 Jan., 1968 [9 Feb., 1967], No. 6230/67. Heading B3F. [Also in Divisions B5 and C1] A method of forming and attaching a functional part, e.g. of metal, on a base member, comprises injecting the metal into an opensided mould cavity through an aperture in the base member, the latter serving to close the open side of the mould cavity. To provide mechanical keying between the metal and base member, the latter may have indentations or apertures which allow the metal to penetrate into or through it. A number of mouldings may be produced simultaneously on a base by having a heated plate between the injection nozzle and the base, the plate having a number of passages leading to a plurality of outlets each feeding a mould cavity. The functional part may be for attaching an article to the base member temporarily, or merely decorative.
