Abstract
1,167,966. Adding top-sheets to bundles. GENERAL STRAPPING CO. DIVISION OF HARRISON WHITE Inc. 19 May, 1967 [2 June, 1966], No. 23485/67. Heading B8C. A reciprocating plate pushes a wrapping sheet, severed from a strip, through spaced supports, upon which it is positioned, on to the top of a bundle below, under the control of electrical devices detecting the presence or absence of an article. In the form described, a strip of wrapper material 20, Fig. 2, supplied from a reel is fed to a pair of parallel support bars 24a, (24b), Fig. 1 (not shown), above a continuously moving conveyer 26. When a photo-cell 34 detects the presence of a bundle 32 a member (62), Fig. 3 (not shown), pushes the strip into contact with a blade (66) for severence. Simultaneously a plate 40, carried by a piston 38, moves down through the bars 24a, (24b) and pushes the severed sheet on to the bundle. The plate 40 may be provided with a series of holes to prevent the formation of a vacuum between itself and the sheet. The strip may be fed through a labelling or addressing mechanism (90), Fig. 7 (not shown), prior to severence.
