Abstract

1326551 Display packages UNION CAMP CORP 14 Aug 1970 [25 Aug 1969] 39394/70 Heading B8C A display package for articles comprises an apertured card, the apertures being shaped and slightly smaller than the articles, and a loop of transparent film extending around each article and being secured to the back of the card at each side of the aperture. As shown, apertured cards from a magazine 16 are transferred to a table 10 by means of a vacuum cap 20 operated through a rod 22, a lever 30 having projections 32, 33 co-operating with a cammed surface 34, and a double piston and cylinder device 26, 28, 38. Pistons 28, 38 also have projections 36, 40 which engage apertures in the cards to advance them along the table 10. Transparent film 56 from a roll 60 is pushed through an aperture in the table and an aperture in the card into a cavity 50 of a reciprocating die 48 by reciprocating loop forming means 66 and is made to conform to the shape of the cavity 50 by an air blast from the means 66. An article from a magazine 68 is pushed by a piston and cylinder device (70, 72) into the loop, the loop is tightened around the article as the card is advanced by tensioning means 80, and the film is heat sealed to the back of the card by a hot platen 76 upon upward movement of the loop forming means 66. A knife (86) severs the transparent material between the cards. The sequence of operations is controlled by a timing device 74. The film may alternatively be secured to the card by stapling or adhesive. In a modification, the cards are replaced by a continuous web of flexible material in which apertures are cut before the web contacts the table, the knife (86) serving to cut both the web and the transparent film.
