Abstract
1,164,008. Vinyl chloride polymers. WACKEB-CHEMIE G.m.b.H. 31 Jan., 1967 [14 March, 1966], No. 4692/67. Heading C3P. Vinyl chloride is polymerized in aqueous suspension with a monomer soluble catalyst using as sole dispersant a methylhydroxypropyl cellulose having a viscosity of 50-500 cps. at 20‹ C. in a 2% aqueous solution. Up to 10%, based on vinyl chloride, of vinyl acetate, may also be present. Specified catalysts are diacetyl-, didecanoyl-, acetylbenzoyl-, dilauroyl-, dibenzoyl-, bis-2,4-dichlorobenzoyl- or ditert.-butylperoxides, diisopropylpercarbonate, tert.- butyl-perpivalate, acetylcyclohexanesulphonyl peroxide and azobutyric acid dinitrile. Polymerization is effected at 0-160‹ C. at pH 4-9, e.g. by adding sodium bicarbonate. The products may be mixed with paste grade emulsion polymers or copolymers of vinyl chloride and the mixture mixed with plasticizer and optionally diluent to form a plastisol or organosol.
