Abstract

1,164,054. Book-binding; joining sheets. F. W. G. GREENER. 16 Feb., 1968 [1 March, 1967], No. 9641/67. Heading B6A. A method of securing paper sheets 4 together comprises passing a length of adhesive tape 7 through an aperture of the assembled sheets and causing it to adhere to the outer front and back surfaces of the stacked sheets. The perforation is made by a hand-operated knife 1 which has a recessed part 8 provided with pins 9. When the knife 1 has pierced the sheets 4 the knife engages a feeder lever 2 having an extending limb 6 and the tape 7 is pressed into contact with the pins 9 so that when the knife is raised it draws the tape 7 through the perforation. At the same time as the knife 1 is raised, a pair of rollers on an apertured frame 3, fold down the tape to the front and back surfaces. A second knife 10 on the frame 3 cuts the tape during the movement.
