Abstract

1,163,732. Crimping yarn by knitting. KLINGER MFG. CO. Ltd. 14 Sept., 1966 [21 Sept., 1965], No. 40275/65. Headings D1F and D1S. Yarn is crimped by knitting the yarn into a fabric, setting the yarn while the fabric is subjected to a constant tension, and unravelling the set yarn. As described a tubular fabric is knitted from nylon yarn, flattened, passed between two heater plates maintained at 220‹C with steam passing through apertures in the two plates, and passed over a roller spring- urged away from the straight line of travel of the fabric and connected to a micro-switch unit controlling the speed of the fabric into and/or out of the heating zone so as to maintain the fabric tension constant. The yarn is unravelled from the fabric and moved on a package with a photo-cell device maintaining the point of unravelling substantially constant by sensing the position of the point and switching the winding means, which wind the yarn at a speed greater than the yarn is knitted, on and off accordingly. Alternatively the yarn may be knitted on a flat-bed knitting machine.
