Abstract

1,213,151. Knit-deknit crimping yam; knitting machines. KLINGER MFG. CO. Ltd. 29 Jan., 1968 [28 Jan., 1967], No. 4316/67. Headings DIC, D1F and D1W. In a process of knit-deknit crimping yarn, undrawn or partially drawn yam is drawn while in the stitched configuration. The yarn may be knitted using a single latched, bearded, or hooked needle, or a plurality of needles. In the machine described yarn passes from a supply bobbin and hysteresis tensions to a single knitting needle (of similar construction to that of Specification 1,121,501) which forms a chain of stitches which passes to feed rolls, then along a first groove and back along a second groove of an electric heater to a pair of draw rolls. Both pairs of rolls comprise a rubber surfaced roll and a driven roll spring urged together. The chains pass from the draw rolls via a feeler, operable on yarn failure or excessive tension to stop the machine, towards a third pair of rolls rotated at a faster speed than the draw rolls to unravel the chain. The bulkiness of the yarn may be increased by an edge crimping or air blast treatment.
