Abstract

1278823 Knitting-machines TRIP-LITE Ltd 4 March 1970 [13 March 1969] 13166/69 Heading D1C A circular knitting machine having a plurality of yarn feeds 14 is equipped with a positive yarn feed mechanism 13 at least one of the feeds and comprises a yarn sensing device 21 acting on a yarn Y at a position between the positive feed mechanism 13 and yarn feeder 14 and means 12 to effect axial motion of the needle cylinder 10 in response to variations in tension of the yarn sensed by the sensing device. The sensing device 21 comprises a movable pin 47 which can be used in conjunction with photo-cells, piezo-electric crystals or contact switches to feed impulses to a control unit 23 which rotates a cam 42 which through a lever 43 lifts or lowers a lug 45 attached to the needle cylinder. Only one sensing device need be supplied irrespective of the number of yarn feeds, positive or otherwise, provided on the machine. As shown the machine which is of the rotary cylinder type has four positive yarn feeds driven by a belt 35 from a box 39 the output of which can be varied according to the dictates of a pattern chain 27 or equivalent through a control unit 25.
