Abstract

1,158,102. Bearing assemblies for spindles. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 Jan., 1967 [7 Feb., 1966], No. 5360/66. Heading D1D. In winding apparatus of the kind in which a spindle 10 is driven by frictional contact with a continuous tape and is rotatably mounted on the main frame of the winding apparatus so as to extend vertically upward from the mounting, a bearing assembly 14, 15, 17 is arranged to engage a protrusion 18 of the main frame at two spaced points through resilient members 20. The two points are on opposite sides of the tape engaging part 12 of the spindle. With identical members the points are equidistant from part 12. The members are preferably of polyurethane having a rebound resilience less than 80%, are annular and in cross section have a rectangular shape relieved on two opposite corners. The lower end of the spindle sits in pad 23 positioned in the lower part of bearing housing 17 which extends into bolster 19 filled with a lubricant 24. A brake pad 26 and a safety device complete the mounting.
