Abstract

1,157,380. Magnetic interrupters. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 12 July, 1968 [17 July, 1967], No. 33339/68. Heading H1N. In a magnetic interrupter having a heater mounted on a low Curie point magnetic member the heater is located in grooves in the magnetic member. As shown, a permanent magnet 9 on the end of an upwardly biased spring 7 is attracted to a soft ferromagnetic (preferably ferrite) member 21 so that snap-action spring 19 urges a contact spring 17 against a fixed contact 11. A resistance wire 25 in grooves 23 in the member 21 is in series with the contacts and heats the member 21 to its Curie point so that the spring 7 moves the permanent magnet 9 upward to disengage contacts 7, 11 and engage contacts 7, 13. The soft ferromagnetic member may be mounted on the spring 7 with the permanent magnet on the fixed base of the interrupter. In Fig. 3 (not shown), a changeover interrupter has heaters in each circuit.
