Abstract
1,152,034. Tubular heat exchangers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 12 Aug., 1966 [12 Aug., 1965], No. 34528/56. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises a plurality of straight or U-shaped tubes 11 disposed in a vessel, each end of each tube being fixed to a tubeplate, the tubes being bound into a bundle by metal straps 15 which are in contact only with the bundle, which is thus located within the vessel by the tubeplate or tubeplates alone, and spacer rings 12 fixed coaxially around at least some of the tubes, each in circumferential engagement with the other tubes nearest that around which it is fixed. Each ring 12 may be a one-piece element shrunk on to the corresponding tube 11, or it may consist of two or more ring segments 13, the spokes of which are welded at 14. The rings have areodynamically shaped edges and are staggered longitudinally along the tubes. The tubes lie on a triangular, rectangular or square lattice and need not all carry spacer rings 12. In another embodiment, (Fig. 4), inner rings (32) are provided, so that the bundle takes the form of a hollow cylinder. Each tube is plain or finned.
