Abstract

977,579. Tubular heat-exchange elements. SERCK RADIATORS Ltd. Feb. 19, 1963 [March 1, 1962], No. 7972/62. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises a pair of tubes 10, 11 arranged coaxially, one within the other, and joined together at their ends so as to form a closed space between the tubes; an inlet 13 and an outlet 14 communicating with said space, and one of said tubes being formed with a plurality of dimples 2 distributed over its surface and engaging the other tube; the dimples being arranged in axiallyspaced planes with the dimples in adjacent planes circumferentially staggered relative to one another. In the embodiment shown the dimples are formed in the outer tube, and the ends of the inner tube 11 are flared. The tubes may have a cross-section other than circular. The heat exchanger may be located in the radiator heater tank of a liquid-cooled internalcombustion engine. The engine oil flows through the space between the tubes and is thereby cooled.
