Abstract

1,148,547. Combined speaking window and delivery hatch. A. BOURLIER and C. P. A. BOURLIER. 16 Nov., 1967 [8 Dec., 1966], No. 52163/67. Heading E1J. A combined assembly of speaking window and delivery hatch comprises an air-impervious diaphragm 11 unaffected by heat and moisture e.g. of polyvinyl chloride stretched on a metal-' frame 2 to transmit frequencies of the human voice, sandwiched between two transparent screens 1, 3 forming a box resonant at speech frequencies and provided with openings 12 which transmit sound waves and a pivoted shutter 8 e.g. of polymethyl methacrylate, capable of opening through an obtuse angle with respect to the screen frame 1, and having pivots adjustable vertically to enable the shutter to close the gap 4 between the bottom rail of the frame 1 and the counter on which the assembly stands. The frame 3 is mounted on the frame 1 with the screen 2 therebetween by clips 16 fixed on the frame 1 engaging in peripheral recesses 14, 15 in the frame 3. The openings 12 are formed by glass strips 5 obliquely set with respect to the frames 1 and 3 respectively, one either side of a middle glass strip 6 parallel to the frame. The shutter 8 may be held in any position by braking devices (PVC shoes 20 1 , 21 1 and 20 2 and 21 2 Fig. 2 not shown) applied against metal side sectors 7 1 , 7 2 on the frame 1. Stops 9, 9 1 enable the shutter to be locked in its closed position flat against the frame 1.
