In apparatus for washing and filling textile material in endless lengths, a pair of squeeze feed rollers 4, 5 is provided with transverse grooves, in each of which there is an elongated arcuate element 11, 12, positioned tangentially in the groove at the point of contact of the rollers, the arcuate elements having a radius of curvature greater than that of the rollers. In a preferred embodiment, the material passes through a sizing or finishing device 2 and thence through the nip of the rollers 4, 5. The arcuate elements 11, 12 then guide the material into a retaining box formed between a fixed plate 6 and a hinged cover 7, before the material is fed back into the bath of treating liquid. The squeeze rollers are preferably arranged with their axes vertically in line, the upper roller being displaceable vertically. The arcuate elements associated with the lower roller are preferably fixed in position, and those elements associated with the upper roller may be hinged at one end, a thrust being applied to the other, or may be attached to the spindle of the upperroller by means of tie rods 13. The squeeze rollers may also be arranged with their axes horizontally aligned, each being horizontally displaceable against a force urging them towards each other; in this case, the arcuate elements are hinged on the feed-in side of the rollers, the other ends of the elements being subjected to a thrust urging the elements towards each other, Fig. 4 (not shown). The squeeze rollers may advantageously be rubber covered.
