Abstract

<PICT:0939170/IV(a)/1> In expressing excess liquid from a material, the material is passed through a nip and the excess liquid is conducted away by a covering of porous resilient material on at least one roller at the nip, the porous resilient material being capable of accommodating all remaining excess liquor from the material as it passes out of said nip. Apparatus shown comprises a pair of rollers A and B each comprising a steel mandrel 10 having an annular covering of rubber 11 and a further annular covering 12 of foamed polyurethane. In a second embodiment an endless belt of foamed polyurethane is positioned around each roller the remote part of the belt being passed around a guide roller.
