Abstract

1,142,328. Mechanical seals. UNITED STATES METALLIC PACKING CO. Ltd. 19 July, 1966 [12 May, 1966], No. 28314/68. Divided out of 1,142,326. Headings F2B and F2H. The halves 62, 63 of the packing ring 45 of a rotary mechanical seal described in Specification 1,142,326, are aligned by elastically deformable locators 64-67 located in recesses at the joint interfaces 68, 69, the locators 64, 65 being parallel to the rotary axis and the locators 66, 67 being normal thereto. The locators in Figs. 4, and 5 are short tubular members received in V-shaped notches 70, 71 and elastically deformed as in Fig. 5 when the halves 62, 63 are clamped together. The locators may be in the form of split tubes or springs located in part circular or semi-circular recesses in the halves, Figs. 6-11 (not shown).
