Abstract

1,034,304. Seals. G. ANGUS & CO. Ltd. March 31, 1965 [March 13, 1964], No. 10671/64. Headings F2B and F2U. Sealing means between two parts of a mechanical joint comprises a resilient sealing ring 20 that engages a conical surface on one of the parts and is housed in a peripheral channel 19 in a ring 18 mounted on the other part, the base of the channel 19 having a similar conicity to that of said conical surface. As shown applied to a gear coupling, the ring 18, which is preferably diametrally split, is mounted with radial freedom in a channel 17 in the spigot 16 of a pinion 12 engaging the internal teeth 11 of a sleeve 10 having a lead-in cone 15 against which the 0-ring 20 is urged by a spring 28. The ring 18 is sealed in the channel 17 by an 0-ring 22.
