Abstract

A moulded tray has an outwardly extending rim consisting of portions 15, 16, 17 which curve upwards and portions 18, 19, 20 which curve downwards such that an identical tray may be inverted and placed face-to-face on top of the aforementioned tray, relative movement between the two being prevented due to the upwardly curving rim portions of one tray engaging the downwardly curving rim portions of the other tray. Corrugations 32 enable several such containers formed by two face-to-face trays to be securely stacked, part 32b of the corrugations extending above and part 32a below the bottom surface of the tray. The corrugations 32a, 32b then fit one within the other. Bays 25-28 extending outwardly of the tray sides 12, 14 form abutment members enabling the trays to be stacked within each other the same way up to form containers of depth just less than the depth of a single tray, Fig. 3 (not shown). When so stacked alternate trays are turned relatively through 180 degrees about a vertical axis, with the bays 25, 26 below the bays 27, 28 of the tray above, and the bottoms of the bays lying on the rims 15 &c. The sides of the tray are splayed outwards, to allow the trays to be nested one inside the other, the same way up, each bay then entering a corresponding bay. As shown, the trays are of rectangular shape, but alternatively they may be rounded or oval. The abutment members may alternatively be lugs projecting from the sides, the lugs fitting into apertures of a like tray. The abutment members may be formed on all sides of the tray or they may be formed at intervals around a curved wall tray.
