1,032,859. Cooling vessels for drinking glasses; jugs &c. A. M. STONER. Dec. 13, 1963 [Dec. 17, 1962; Oct. 25, 1963], No. 49410/63. Heading A4A. [Also in Division F4] A device for cooling the contents of a removable glass or pitcher comprises a double-walled aluminium container 10 which has a liquid refrigerant 15 between its walls and is suspended within an insulating container 13 by its rim 11. The container 10 is placed upside-down in a refrigerator to solidify the refrigerant 15 which is prevented from slipping downwardly between the walls of the container by a shoulder 33 formed in the outer wall thereof as the refrigerant begins to melt upon introduction of a glass 14 containing liquid to be cooled. Spaced projections are provided on the outer wall of container 10 at and below the shoulder 33 to prevent the containers from sticking together when stacked for storage in a refrigerator. The refrigerant may be a glycerine-water solution and occupies about 80% of the space between the walls. In the embodiment of Fig. 8 (not shown) the double walled container 111 is formed of polyethylene, the inner wall 130 being thinner and consequently more flexible than the outer wall 117 which is smoothly tapering. The outer insulated container comprises a stainless steel vessel 120 to the upper edge of which is secured a plastics ring 121 having a shoulder 114 for supporting the lip of container 111. The vessel 120 is lined with foamed plastics material 128. The vessel to be cooled comprises a pitcher 110 having a lid 150, stirrer 152 and spout 133. In each embodiment the walls of the double walled container taper at an angle of between 5 degrees and 15 degrees with respect to their axes.
