1331503 Compartmented containers; two component packages R REHFELDT 6 Nov 1970 [6 Nov 1969] 52971/70 Headings B8C and B8D] A container comprises two chambers 5 and 7 separately storing the constituents of a beverage, a separating wall 6 between the chambers being frangible on manual pressure being applied to an external deformable container wall 3 to permit mixing of the constituents without opening of the container, and said container being utilisable as a drinking vessel when opened. As shown in Fig. 1, the wall 3 defines a beaker shaped vessel 1 of resiliently deformable polyethylene or polystyrene, and the wall 6, which is dish-shaped, is of brittle polystyrene or polyethylene and/or is constructed to rupture at predetermined locations. A lid 4 of plastics or aluminium foil is sealed to both the vessel and dish-shaped wall so that, after mixing of the constituents, the dish-shaped wall is removed with the lid. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the separating wall is formed by an inner beaker-shaped vessel 11 spaced from and located within an outer nestable beakershaped vessel to form a double-walled beaker on removal of a common lid 4. In the embodiment of Fig. 3, the chamber 5 is formed by a brittle-walled capsule inserted into a beakershaped vessel 1 past a waisted portion 14. In Fig. 4, the bottom of the beaker is recessed and forms the frangible wall, and a plastics or aluminium lid 14 is sealed by welding or adhesive over the recess to define a sealed chamber 5. In another embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), chamber 5 is formed by an inverted plastics dish having a projection 18 moulded in its top wall and cover foil sealed over its open bottom end to constitute the separating wall 6. The formed capsule is snapped into a recessed top portion of a beaker 1 and sealed therein by an aluminium foil lid 4. On depression of the lid, the projection 18 pierces the cover foil to permit mixing of the constituents. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the chamber 5 is formed by a plastics capsule having a piercing projection 18 in a bottom wall, said capsule being snapfitted on to the bottom rim of a beaker, the bottom and top wall of the beaker and capsule respectively being ruptured on depression of the capsule top wall. In another modification, the capsule may be sprung on to the upper edge of the beaker.
