Abstract

1,030,069. Tunnel furnace. L. CHOMAT. Nov. 6, 1964 [Nov.16, 1963; Sept 29, 1964], No. 45403/64. Heading F4B. A tunnel furnace comprises a plurality of independant sections 1 linked together by nuts and bolts, a compression spring being inserted beneath each nut to compensate for thermal expansion effects. The sections each comprise a metal frame 2 holding refractory brickwork supported on a carriage 3 on non- driven rollers 4 orientatable in any direction. The sections are linked by bolting together their corner members 5 (Fig. 2, not shown). Circular iron rods, carried by the sections 1 to form rails, along which carriages supporting materials to be treated, move, are linked together through smaller diameter rods located in blind sockets in their ends (Fig. 4, not shown) to allow for thermal expansion. Return sets of rails 16, outside the furnace proper are carried by extended cross-members 15 supported on foot 18 and roller 4.
