Abstract

1,029,127. Tobacco smoke filters. T. ROWLANDS (MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd.). April 5, 1965 [April 6, 1964], No. 14020/64. Heading A2C. A method of producing stubs for cigarettes comprises feeding axially a continuous rod of stub material, cutting the axially moving rod at intervals to produce sections of stub rod 1 each of which is of a length a little in excess of an exact multiple of a stub to be produced, trimming each section by cutting off the excess at at least one end of the section, and dividing the trimmed section into suitable stub lengths, the steps of trimming and dividing being performed while the sections are moving transversely of their length. The cutting of the rod length 1 into sections and the trimming off of the excess is accomplished by disc knives co-operating with a fluted drum in which the lengths 1 are conveyed.
