Abstract

In an animal drenching syringe the dosage is determined by limiting the length of stroke by means of a projection, fixed in relation to the plunger, engaging in one of a series of longitudinal grooves in the wall of the barrel. A hollow, tubular handle 4, Fig. 3, (not shown) encloses a fixed plunger 22, Fig. 2, (not shown) mounted on a threaded tube 24 which is screwed through an end plate 25 held in the handle by the inturned ends of a spring clip 26. The cylinder 9 fits over this plunger and is normally urged outward by a spring 11. It carries a discharge nozzle 18, enclosing an outlet valve 34 while an inlet valve 32 on the piston sealing member 31 seals the bore of the tube 24 so that an outward stroke of the cylinder 9 causes it to be refilled through a tube leading from a supply through a union 28. The outer part of the cylinder has a thickened wall and carries a ring 13, which may be freely rotated around it so that a recess 14 in the ring may be aligned with any one of a number of slots 21, of differing lengths, in the wall of the tube. A screw 7 engages in the operative slot and thus limits the travel of the cylinder relative to the plunger and, in order to change from one slot to another, the cylinder is pressed fully inward, so that the screw is located in the recess 14 and the cylinder is then rotated until the desired slot 21 is aligned with the screw whereupon release of the cylinder causes the screw to pass into the slot concerned.
