Abstract
1,020,260. Securing pulley hubs on shafts. EMERSON ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 29, 1964 [Jan. 24, 1964], No. 52721/64. Heading F2U. The axially movable flange 11 (Fig. 1, not shown) of an expanding pulley is secured to a shaft 10 by a V-shaped plastic key 19 which is axially slidable in a V-shaped groove 20 in the shaft 10 and engages recesses 21 in the hub 13 of the flange. The arms of the V-shaped key 19 are at right angles and transmit part of the torque in compression thus reducing shear forces on the key. Projections 22, 23 integral with the key engage recesses 24, 25 in the hub 13 and ensure that the key moves axially with the hub. The key is made of a plastic material having a low coefficient of friction and a sleeve 15 between the hub 13 and shaft 10 is made of a similar material. In (Fig. 6 not shown) a W-shaped key 34 is provided and in (Fig. 7 not shown) two V-shaped keys 40, 41 are provided.
