Abstract

1,157,138. Securing hubs on shafts. G. TITT. 30 Dec., 1966 [30 Dec., 1965], No. 58364/66. Heading F2U. A hub 2 is coupled to a shaft 1 by a strip formed into sprags 3 which are alternately oppositely directed and joined by resilient members 5 formed by punching out part of the material of the strip and compressing during assembly of the coupling to bias the sprags in their clamping directions. The sprags may be strengthened by corrugations. The contacting surfaces 4 of the sprags may be spherical to accommodate misalignment of the coupled parts. If the coupled parts are very soft hardened rings may be interposed between them and the coupling strip or alternatively slight deformation may be produced thus increasing the area contacted by the sprags.
