Abstract
1,020,195. Thread rolling machines. HARTFORD SPECIAL MACHINERY CO. Aug. 21, 1964 [June 26, 1964], No. 34295/64. Heading B3M. In a thread rolling machine screw blanks 13 are fed between rails 27, 28 and are positioned on the stationary die 20 by means of a gate or finger 25 moving in timed relationship with the movable die 16. To speed up the operation of the machine an air jet 40 is directed on the blanks 13 in such a way as to direct the major portion of the air stream along the direction of feed. The feed rails 27, 28 are inclined to feed the blanks by gravity and the horizontal component of the air jet ensures proper seating of the transferred blank against the movable die. The blanks are fed to the feed rails 27, 28 from a rotary drum which includes an inclined plate 61 down which the blanks slide to the rails (Fig. 3, not shown). As only a proportion of the blanks will be properly orientated with their shanks between the rails, two air jets 70, 71 at the exit aperture of the drum remove the improperly orientated blanks and return them to the drum to prevent a jam.
