Abstract

1,016,790. Arrangement of ships' engines. WAGNER - HOCHDRUCK - DAMPFTURBINEN G.m.b.H. July 19, 1963 [July 21, 1962; Aug. 22, 1962], No. 28784/63. Headings B7S and B7V. A ship's propulsion plant comprises a plurality of engines, e.g. diesel engines 3, 4 (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) and gas turbines 5, 6, which drive a propeller shaft 7 via a common gear unit 2, and bed frames 8, 9, 10 and 11 which are connected to the gear unit 2 by universal joints d 3 , d 4 , d 5 and d 6 , and are mounted on the ship's bottom by pivot pedestals e 3 , e 4 , e 5 and e,. The plant compartment is divided by bulkheads 24 through which the joints d 3 to d 6 extend in a sealed watertight manner as also do the drive shaft between the engines and gear unit which are sealed by bellows.
