Abstract
1,004,763. Hydraulic apparatus. VAPOR CORPORATION. Oct. 29, 1962 [Dec.15, 1961], No. 40856/62. Heading F1P. [Also in Division H2] A snap-action differential fluid-pressure actuator comprises a casing 10, 11, 12, two pressure chambers 31, 46 joined by a passageway 45 and two diaphragms 14, 13 responsive respectively to pressures in the chambers, the passageway being opened and closed by the end 39 of a piston 25. When the pressure, supplied to the chamber 31 through a conduit 32, reaches a predetermined amount, the diaphragm 14 forces the piston 25 to the right overcoming the biasing effect of a spring 61, thus opening the passageway 45 and allowing the pressure to operate against the diaphragm 13, so overcoming the biasing effect of a spring 60 and driving a plunger 48 against a switch plunger 51 to operate the switch 52. A ball check valve 73 is provided to seat against a recess 76 and an adjustable stop 74 to close a passageway 69 through the piston 25 while the switch is being actuated. When the pressure supplied through conduit 32 subsequently drops, the spring 61 returns the plunger 25 and stabilizer 65 so that the pressure in chamber 46 drops as it becomes open to the atmosphere through the passageway 69 through piston 25 and vents 72 in the casing 12. The spring 60, thus, returns the plunger 48 to its original position, deactuating the switch 52. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the plunger 48 protrudes from the casing 11, the piston 25 is elongated with the end-cap of the casing providing the adjustable stop for the ball check valve 73, and the pin 26 is threadedly received in the piston 25.
