Abstract

Compounds of formula <F\1> (wherein R1 represents a straight or branched chain alkyl group having less than 7 carbon atoms and R2 represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or a straight or branched chain alkyl or alkoxy group containing less than 5 carbon atoms (are prepared by reducing a benzophenone derivative of formula <F\2> wherein R11 and R111 represent hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups having a combined total of less than five carbon atoms, for example by lithium aluminium hydride. Benzophenone derivatives of the second general formula above are prepared by treating a compound of formula <F\3> with bromine and heating the product formed.
