Abstract

[Also in Division F1] In hydrostatic extrusion apparatus in which a work piece is extruded through a die by direct liquid pressure, e.g. to produce wire, the liquid is pressurized by a piston 1 mounted in a cylinder 3. The piston is sealed with respect to the cylinder and actuating plunger 2 by sealing rings 6 and 13, respectively, on its pressurizing stroke and on its return stroke air trapped below the piston can escape and liquid from the reservoir 17 can enter the cylinder via a groove 15 in the connecting bolt 5, the piston bore 12 and the clearance 16 between the plunger and cylinder.
