Abstract

1,092,927. Textile treating apparatus; winch dyeing machines. LEEMETALS Ltd. July 1, 1966 [Oct. 2, 1965], No. 41909/65. Heading D1L. In a winch dyeing machine of the type in which fabric in rope form is passed over a winch drum, at one end of the machine, to be plaited into a bath of dye liquor, and is withdrawn over a roller at the other end of the machine, the winch drum is constructed with supporting members B formed of a plurality of discs b<SP>2</SP> pivoted together so that the periphery may be varied from being substantially circular to substantially elliptical, the ratio of major to minor axes being 2:1, means being provided to lock the supporting members in the desired configuration. In a preferred embodiment, two substantially diamond-shaped discs b<SP>2</SP> are pivoted at their corners to the mid-points of link arms b<SP>3</SP>, the outer periphery of which forms part of a circle. Each disc b<SP>2</SP> is provided with arcuate slots b<SP>5</SP> or a plurality of holes through which bolts b<SP>6</SP> pass to secure the discs together. In the embodiment shown, when the bolts are at one end of the slots the discs b<SP>2</SP> are at right angles to each other and the periphery of the links arms form a circle, when the bolts are moved to the other end of the slots, the periphery of the link arms is substantially elliptical. One of the discs b<SP>2</SP> is keyed to a shaft for rotation of the winch drum, the surface of which is formed by lag straps b<SP>4</SP> extending between the supporting members B. The shaft of the drum may be formed in two or more concentric parts, a flange being mounted on the outer part and bolted to the discs. A midfeather (a) Fig. 1 (not shown) may be provided below the drum to guide the fabric to the roller at the other end of the machine. The fabric may be dyed in the piece, the ends being sewn together, and several pieces arranged across the width of the machine; or one length of fabric may be passed in several turns over the winch drum and guide roller.
