Abstract
1,083,933. Sealing rings; joint-making packing; piston packing. IMPERVIA, SOCIETE D'ETUDES ET DE REALISATIONS. May 19, 1965 [May 22, 1964]. No. 21265/65. Heading F2B. A sealing device for sealing a clearance gap between two parallel surfaces comprises a resilient member 4 having a capping 6 which includes side plate 5 connected by a flexible member 7, the device being mounted in a groove 3 in one of the surfaces so that when the pressure of the material being sealed acts on the resilient member the flexible member is urged into sealing contact with the other surface. The resilient member 4 may be of a plastics material and the capping 6 of copper or silver alloy. In a modification (Fig. 3) extensions (8) are formed on the side plates 5. The device may be used to seal a gap between relatively fixed members or between a reciprocating or rotary shaft and its housing.
