Abstract

612,830. Oil seals. GARLOCK PACKING CO. Jan. 14, 1946, No. 1256. Convention date, Feb. 9, 1945. [Class 122 (v)] In an oil seal comprising a flexible element 25, Fig. 1, pressed into contact with a shaft B by a garter spring 29, the spring is retained by a resilient ring 30 which lies between the spring and the sealing lip and extends around the spring to form an abutment which prevents displacement thereof. The retaining ring 30 may be formed as shown in Figs. 4 and 5, and the garter spring comprise rigid portions joined by springs. The flexible part 25 of the seal may engage the casing C, the seal being mounted on the shaft B. Specification 612,831, [Group XXXII], is referred to.
