Abstract

1,270,276. Tunnelling. UNION INDUSTRIALLE BLANZY-OUEST. 24 July, 1969 [13 Aug., 1968], No. 37347/69. Heading E1F. A continuous tunnel-boring machine comprises a rotatable head 1 having thereon tools 18-21 pivotally and/or translatorily movable with respect to the head in planes passing through the axis of the head. In the embodiment shown each tool is pivotally mounted and swung through an arc 10a, 11a, 12a, or 13a by a hydraulic jack connected along the axis of the head to a gear pump driven by an electric motor reversed when the tools engages limit switches. The jacks can be replaced by a mechanical or electro-mechanical device. The tools may be freely rotatable discs, or tricone cutters or picks. Debris 45 is picked up by buckets 44 and passes through a hole 46 at the top of machine (shown displaced in the drawing) onto a conveyor belt.
