Abstract

1,076,421. Cable spacers. ENFIELD ROLLING MILLS Ltd. Jan. 2, 1964 [Jan. 7, 1963], No. 250/64. Heading H2C. A spacer for three or more (as shown, four) cables such as the bundled conductors of one phase of an overhead power line comprises link members 5 flexibly connected between cable clamps 1, 2, 3, 4 and a central body member 6, the ends of the link members each forming plugs 21, 31 which enter cavities 10, 30 in the central body member and the cable clamps, respectively, being retained therein by elastomeric material 28, 32. Each plug is of generally rectangular cross-section with two flat parallel faces which are parallel to the axis of the cable, two flat diverging faces perpendicular to them, and arcuate ends. The cavities have co-operating shapes but the clearances between their faces and the faces of the plugs are less for those parallel to the axis of the cable than for those perpendicular to them. It is also arranged that the widths across the bulbous ends of the plugs are greater than the widths across the throats of the cavities. The cable clamps 1 have caps 12 which are hinged to their base members 11 by links 13 and are secured by T-bolts 14. The central body member 6 may be a light non-ferrous alloy casting and the link members 5 may also be made of non-ferrous metal. The elastomeric material may be of natural or butyl rubber, made electrically conductive by addition of carbon or similar material, and may be bonded to the surfaces of the ends of the link members and of the cavities in the cable clamps and central body member. Fig. 5 (not shown) shows an embodiment for three cables.
