Abstract

1,067,289. Valves. H. R. GERDTS, and W. F. GERDTS, [trading as GUSTAV F. GERDTS KOMM GES.]. May 10, 1965 [May 9, 1964], No. 19717/65. Heading F2V. In a thermostatically controlled valve, e.g. for dwelling house heating circuits, the flow between inlet 3 and outlet 4 is valved by an annular closure element 19 which is slidingly urged towards a seat 14 along a spindle 9 against a spring 20, upon expansion of a stack of thermostatic bi-metallic plates carried by the spindle which dome out in pairs, the setting of the valve being adjustable by an external control knob 10 in screwed or sliding engagement with the valve housing cover 2 and whereby a throttling effect is obtained by the end 11 of spindle 9 and whereby closure may also be effected by the engagement thereof with seat 14. The valve may also be applied in cooling rate limiting devices using a temperature responsive device which expands upon cooling. The valve seat 14 is preferably of stainless steel which may be moulded into the valve housing 1 produced from a non-ferrous metal, e.g. corrosion resistant aluminium alloy, by a pressure moulding or hot-pressing process. The connection pipes 3 and 4 may be cast with the housing 1 or be moulded-in and the movable inner parts of the valve consist of stainless steel. Air venting may be obtained via a vent bore (not shown) closed by a threaded pin with a vent channel. The narrow sealing surface 18 of the closure 17 minimizes pressure effects upon opening of the valve.
