Abstract

1,066,745. Springs. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. July 9, 1964 [July 12, 1963], No. 28338/64. Heading F2S. A resilient compression spring consists of several individual buffer elements 2, 3, 4 which are detachably interconnected in series, in the direction of the spring compression, by positively interlocking joints. As shown, the buffer elements are of annular construction so that. after assembly, a cylindrical, as shown, or alternatively a barrel-shaped cavity is produced. The middle buffer 3 has a laterally-projecting flange 6 which is detachably engaged within an inner annular groove 7 in the upper buffer, a groove 8 in the lower end of the buffer 3 being engaged, in detachable manner, by a flange 9 on the upper end of the bottom buffer 4. The latter is adhered to a base-plate 10. Any number of buffer elements of different sizes and hardnesses may be combined to form a compression spring element. Flared grooves (11). Fig. 1 (not shown), in the outer surfaces of the buffers each have several pairs of diametricallyopposed protuberances (13) on their side walls, the protuberances serving to prevent the walls of the grooves from adhering to one another after relaxation following a high compression of the spring. The buffer elements are preferably made of a highly resilient plastics material, e.g. cellular polyurethane.
