Abstract

1,066,175. Caps for bottles. DANIEL MONTGOMERY & SON Ltd. June 17, 1965 [June 19, 1964], No. 25355/64. Heading B8T. A bottle closure device comprises a cap 1, on the inside of which is an annular socket 5 for receiving a spigot 7 of a flexible plastics sealing disc 6 having an annular flange 8, which may be convex, concave or cone-shaped, spaced from the top of the cap and engaging the rim of the bottle. A lip (10), Fig. 2 (not shown), is formed on the outer wall of the spigot 7 to ensure a tight fit of the spigot in the socket 5. When the cap 1, which may be of metal or of a rigid or semi-rigid plastics material, is screwed on to the bottle neck, the rim of the bottle abuts the flange 8 and compresses an annular projection 9 on the flange against the cap, thereby tightly sealing the bottle. The flange 8 is of varying thickness, the thickness being greatest at the spigot 7 and least at the periphery of the flange, and the sealing disc -6 may be formed by a moulding or vacuum forming operation. As a modification, instead of being screwed on to the bottle, the rim of the cap 1 may be bent in to engage an annular groove in the bottle neck.
