Abstract

1,080,432. Caps for bottles &c. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. April 4, 1966 [April 14, 1965], No.14777/66. Heading B8T. A cap 12 for a flexible plastics bottle &c. 13 has a skirt 16 with lugs 17which are engaged with lugs 14 around the neck of the bottle &c., the cap being so shaped that it prevents deformation of the bottle &c., neck when it is screwed home. As shown, a ring-shaped channel 18 around the cap receives a washer 21 and is formed with a frusto-conical inner edge which engages the inner edge 23 of a radial flange around the bottle &c. neck. Thus, when the cap 12 is tightened, the frusto-conical inner edge of the channel 18 prevents deformation of the bottle &c. neck. In a modification, a ring-shaped channel (41), Fig. 3 (not shown), in the cap receives a washer (42) and has an outer frustoconical surface (45) which engages the outer corner of a radial flange (38) around the bottle &c: neck to prevent deformation. In this modification, the bottle &c. neck is strengthened by a ring-shaped groove (40) at its junction with the body of the bottle &c.
