Abstract

1,064,691. Folding paper. EASTMAN KODAK CO. March 18, 1964 [March 18, 1963], No. 11423/64. Heading B6H. [Also in Division B8] A film strip 11 is cut into sheets 13, 13<SP>1</SP>, and alternate sheets 13 fed to suction rollers 17, 19, by a suction roller 15, and the remaining sheets 13<SP>1</SP> fed to suction rollers 17<SP>1</SP>, 19<SP>1</SP> by a suction roller 15<SP>1</SP>. Continuous webs of wrapping paper 28, 281 are fed to rollers 17, 19, and 17<SP>1</SP>, 19<SP>1</SP>, by suction rollers 29, 29<SP>1</SP>, respectively. The latter carry pressure bars 30, 30<SP>1</SP>, which co-operate with creaser bars 31, 31<SP>1</SP>, and cutter blades 34, 34<SP>1</SP>, on the rollers 19, 19<SP>1</SP>. Thus, the webs are cut into wrapping sheets twice the length of each sheet 13, 13<SP>1</SP>, and each wrapping sheet has a transverse, centrally placed, crease. The feed of the film and wrapping sheets is synchronized so that each film overlaps the rear half of a wrapping sheet as it passes between the rollers 17, 19, or 17<SP>1</SP>, 19<SP>1</SP>. The leading edge of each wrapping sheet is diverted into a vertical guide 45 by a suction roller 40, or 40<SP>1</SP>, and said sheet fed downwards, crease line leading, by cooperating suction rollers 38, 38<SP>1</SP>, to complete the folding of said sheet about the film. All the suction rollers rotate continuously, suction being applied continuously to those portions of their peripheries marked by small circles (e.g. A and B) and intermittently over those portions of their peripheries marked by semicircles (e.g. I and J).
