Abstract
1, 061, 761. Measuring displacements electrically. P. ALAIS. Aug. 26, 1963 [Sept.20, 1962; April 2, 1963], No.33710/63. Heading G1N. A device for measuring linear or angular displacements or vibrations consists of two capacitors C1, C2, varied differentially by the displacement to be measured, and a differential detector circuit including two rectifiers 2 connected with opposite polarities to a common junction. A common terminal 4 of the capacitors is connected to a source of high frequency oscillations and the impedance of the detector circuit is arranged to be such that terminals 3 of the capacitors are substantially at earth potential. The D.C. voltage appearing at V is indicative of the displacement. In a modification diodes 1 are replaced by resistors and in a second modification the capacitors C1, C2 are coupled to the oscillating current source and to the detector circuit by way of screened lines and the diodes 2 are shunted by capacitors and resistors such that the screened lines are resonant at the operating frequency. The latter arrangement is stated to be of use when the temperature of capacitors C1, C2 is subject to variations.
