Abstract

1,240,044. Measuring denier of yarn electrically. TEIJIN Ltd. March 11, 1969 [March 11, 1968 and March 14, 1968], No. 12881/69. Heading G1N. [Also in Division G4] In apparatus for measuring the denier of yarn pressure air is applied to nozzles 2 forming a yarn passage, changes in back-pressure causing a bellows 3 to vary the capacitance of a capacitor formed by a spring plate 6 attached to the bellows and a plate 6<SP>1</SP>, the capacitor being connected in an oscillator whose frequency change is measured by analogue or digital means. The plate 6 is fixed at at least two points symmetrical spaced from the point of attachment 5<SP>1</SP> to the bellows 3. The output of the oscillator may be compared with a reference in a mixing circuit whose output is differentiated to produce pulses which may be fed to a counter or computer. These pulses may, alternatively be applied to a monostable multi-vibrator and a rectifier to produce an analogue signal. In afurther alternative the oscillator output may be fed to a limiter and a discriminator to produce an analogue signal. In a zero method for measuring sampled specimens of yarn, a micrometer screw is attached to the plate 6<SP>1</SP>, a rotor mounted on the screw being rotated to bring the spacing between the plates 6, 6<SP>1</SP> to its original thus the analogue output to its original level.
